Quick Thoughts - Emotions Drive Behavior
Yesterday I moved my daughter into college. During the drive we played a game of “Remember this…” going over many of my favorite moments of her childhood.
I was shocked how many moments were already escaping her memory. She had no recollection of so many awesome or meaningful moments that were crystal clear to me.
How could this be? I’m the old dude. She’s 18 - her memory should be perfect still.
Then I realized… the moments I clearly remembered were emotionally impactful to ME - not her.
It’s not the moment in time. It’s not the things you did. It’s not even the outcomes. As much as I harp on delivering experience - it’s not even the experiences that makes life memorable.
It’s the emotions that are carved into our brains. Good, bad, or ugly… WHY we remember something is based on our emotional response to that moment or experience.
It’s not about getting your client to their weight goal. It’s about the happiness, relief of self-doubt, and pride.
It’s not about winning a medal at a local competition. It’s about vindication and elation.
I always tell PushPress clients to engineer experience. After some reflection the point is to engineer experiences that create emotion. This is how you attract, win, and keep clients for life.
Go make Friday emotional for someone!
