5 Minute Local SEO Juice for your Gym using Google My Business
Your biggest SEO gains in 10 minutes of work
(Read to the end for a link to see some bigger hacks you can do that less people know about)
I’ve hacked the hell out of Local SEO in my years as CEO of PushPress. I can pretty much get any website to top 5 for not only the niche keywords they want but even the prized ‘gym near me’ keyword.
Here’s a 5 minute checkup you can do today to ensure your gym isn’t getting smoked on the Local SEO battle.
It all centers around Google My Business (GMB), because that’s Google’s prized local business search baby.
GMB Listing Check
If you don’t have a verified GMB listing do that now. Add or claim your business or Google Maps to start the process. (make sure to verify your business once done, or this will all be worthless)
Then fill out all of your relevant information on the GMB profile for your business.
Fill everything out that provides context to your gym.
Putting on your white hat, you should help Google understand everything about the business, its hours, who you serve, why you’re doing it. etc.
Keywords!
In your GMB profile, focus on using your Gym Type and City in your business description and other free form text areas.
Also ensure to use other phrasing that people might be looking for. For example if your a HIIT studio, they also might be looking on the terms “bootcamp” or “strength training”
Example:
Bad - XYZ helps you find your best version of yourself in a fun and welcoming community.
Good: XYZ HIIT Fitness Studio helps people of all walks in Overland Park, Kansas find lasting fitness using a combination of bootcamp, high intensity fitness, and strength training. Our Overland Park gym is found on 123 Main St across for ABC school.
GMB Posts
Once a week, go to your business listing a write a super short and simple post. Include a high quality image or video with it.
Do not optimize this post. Use your keywords in it.
The idea here is Google has an interest in having people use GMB to share business activity and they will reward you for doing this.
Some ideas for posts:
A photo and short description of people working out (use a photo where people look happy)
A photo of some smiling members with thumbs up after a class.
A photo of a member and a quick success story.
A new promotion or offer or news in the gym.
One Huge Hack
Watch my recent IG Reel on GMB Local SEO Optimization and the last tidbit is a complete hack that 99% of gyms do not use today.
